“Good Enough” Budget AR-15 Accessories for your Cheap Build
Let’s upgrade the budget AR-STONER rifle by adding attachments and accessories that will allow for modernization and functionality on a budget!

The goal of this video was to demonstrate how I accessorized and set up my budget friendly rifle while still keeping budget in mind. All of the items I added to the gun (except the sling…) are what I would consider to be “Good Enough” for personal preparedness or SHTF style events. There is a place where budget meets quality and most of the components I chose here seem to fit that bill. Let me know your thoughts and if I should have done anything differently on this AR-15 setup!

I agree with your choice of the Romeo 5, best price to performance ratio. But, if someone can’t afford the $150 or so the Romeo MSR can be found for around $65 but usually $75, not as good as the Romeo 5 but is reliable and good quality. Probably the cheapest I’d go for a budget red dot on a rifle I depend on

  2. I found a UTG Pro carbine-length drop-in quad rail for $50, a BCM short vertical foregrip for $40, and Magpul AR-ESK ambi-safety for $35.

  3. Skip the stock and pistol grip and purchase a good sling

  4. @Impossibly-Possible January 29, 2025 at 1:29 pm

I would buy a POF so you dont have to upgrade anything ever and have the most reliable robust accurate rifle, they are 985$-1750$ on battlehawkarmory

  5. "Why would you put expensive parts on a cheap gun"
Tell that to the peq-15 on my PSA

  6. Romeo 7s is cheaper and better than Romeo 5

  7. How do you use the iron sights with that screw blocking the sight path?
My carry handle optics mount is notched, leaving the mounting screw below the sight path, and I use the irons through the red dot.

  8. I have 30+ 18650s, from Dewalt battery packs. Still trying to hunt down a slightly off brand rifle light that takes one. I hear the HLX Pro is a no go, their proprietary battery and all. Thinking I might try a $60 SF 640df knock off just for the hell of it.

  9. Couldn’t have built a better rifle for the money than that. Very respectable. Nicely done

  10. This is stupid

  11. Streamlight is the best, imo. They’re affordable, and you can use their ten-tap to set low/high or strobe, which saves battery.

I don’t know why people are willing to spend 300+ dollars on surefire and modlite when neither give you that ability.

  12. I’m surprised you never even touched on the first gen tundra and more importantly the first gen sequoia

  13. What did you think of the budget friendly upgrades I chose for this rifle? I wanted everything to be "good enough" for preparedness purposes without being expensive so my options (at least in my opinion) were somewhat limited. Feel free to add any suggestions down below!

  14. cheap rifle, add:
    larue mbt2s trigger
    ballistic advantage barrel
    microbest or toolcraft bcg

    now it’s a great rifle

  15. Aaaannnndddd… you’re ready to invade Iraq

  16. "Hi, here’s my budget, cheap ar-15 build." … proceedes to build a better AR than my zombied palmetto SA, dpms, temu sights spare parts gun.

  17. @adrianespinoza1334 January 29, 2025 at 1:47 pm

vism makes an amazing mlok hand guard and decently cheap

  18. Love that carry handle mount.

  19. @rebeccaharris4436 January 29, 2025 at 1:52 pm

    😊

  20. @hedonisticpunkvatos January 29, 2025 at 1:52 pm

Curious if you can still use the handguard irons with that romeo on it? Like that the new pistol grip has a compartment and you can stow an allen wrench or battery for that romeo.

  21. PSA…Del Ton…Smith and Wesson…Ruger… minimum 4140CM barrel if nitride or melonite treated ( better if 4150 cmv) -1/7 twist for versatility, yes to a good bcg , BCM or DD or CMMG, H-1 buffer, CTR stock…you can get by with base military trigger cause 2.5" groups with cheap ammo and good enuff! ( funny enough , I have a midlength PSA that shoots 1 3/4 to 2" groups with white box 55gr just like my Colt 6940!)

  22. Ive yet to fi d anythi g that magpul makes that isnt any good. I run alot of magpul stuff on my guns. I trust all my guns with magpul parts

  23. @navajorezathlete1202 January 29, 2025 at 1:57 pm

    Freakin awesome

  24. @nathenstoneburgh7298 January 29, 2025 at 1:58 pm

I’d mount the red dot on the top handguard rail midway between the carry handle and the front sight. You may need a different height riser though.

  25. That carry handle rail mount was what was used on the old A2s before the Army went to the M16A4 with the detachable carry handle Iron site My Infantry Unit back in 03 was issued M16A4s. We mounted Red dots or ACOGs.

  26. Who in the hell runs a quad rail in 2024?

  27. Sick build. I’m surprised at how good it looks after a few budget friendly upgrades.

  28. Duct tape on the buffer tube under the adjustable stock eliminates wobble, just fyi. Also if you’re not going to use it for home defense (which is probably wise), I’d spend the money you spent on that flashlight and all the parts for that on a better trigger.

    Otherwise, no notes.

  29. When I was shopping around for my first AR I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted…that’s when I decided to just build one…i shopped around and looked for deals and I actually ended up saving money over buying a complete rifle

  30. Magpul BAD Lever on the bolt release. The BAD Lever allows closing & opening the bolt with the trigger finger rather than reaching over to manipulate the stock paddle/nub on the left-side of the lower receiver. I have the BAD Lever on every one of my lowers and those that I have assisted in building for other shooters.

  31. You paid $150 for a romeo 5? 😂😂😂😂😂

  32. my first two ar’s were a diamondback and a dpms. one was $350 and the other one was free. as i started shooting and got better, i started watching videos and reading articles on the reviews of parts i was interested in. as time when on and the more i was shooting, the more parts i was changing out get more accuracy and comfort out of the rifles. today they only things that are original on those two rifles is the upper and lower. one of them had a commercial buffer tube so of course that had to be changed out.
from those two rifles the biggest thing i learned is building your rifle is the cheaper way to go than buying a brand new, budget, off the shelf rifle because most likely youre going to end up changing everything out anyways. it might be a different story if your going to buy a higher end rifle closer to the $2k range. the other thing i learned is not all parts are made equal. stay away from the cheap, gimmicky amazon parts if you want to start swapping parts out. try and stay to good brand name parts.
the three most important parts of the rifle are the barrel, bcg and sighting system. opinions may vary but to me thats where i wont skimp. if anything, thats where im spending the most money especially the sighting system.

  33. I love budget builds. That one looks solid. Wars have been waged and won with rifles just like that one. Good looking build

  34. My Sig tread, has all the best, trigger by Cmc,charger radian, red dot, by Sig, mbus ,after upgrades, expensive. 450.00 in trigger, tac six case, other items.860.00 for gun, with nickel boron trigger, heavy, but no mush, like some rifles. I LIKE GOOD TRIGGERS.

  35. @Impossibly-Possible January 29, 2025 at 2:06 pm

BUY A GOOD SLING! do not go cheap and have your rifle drop on the ground breaking something expensive.

  36. @Impossibly-Possible January 29, 2025 at 2:07 pm

so what did the red dot not do? it is either on or its off? why did you stop before you said what they did? I havent seen the 30 dollar red dots stop working, they are the same as the sig and holosun 100 dollar red dots, I think the chinese companies making them sig and holosun make more and sell them for 30-40 dollars. the one I got looks like the rest without the name sig or holosun.

  37. @Survivalist.Mindset January 29, 2025 at 2:10 pm

Bonus on not only saving money (ridiculous that a rear iron sight is 56 bucks) but also that now your dot fully clears the a2 sight for a clearer picture. I have a Romeo5 on my ar with an a2 front iron and the field of view is pretty poor with the normal riser it comes with.

  38. What do yall think about the CVLIFE 2MOA Motion Awake Red Dot Sight with CVLIFE 3X Red Dot Magnifier Combo I know it’s a mouthful, but it’s only 140 bucks on Amazon and it’s supposed to be a sig replica

  39. What’s the fascination with the 80s carry handles?

  40. @bblwarrantydepartment981 January 29, 2025 at 2:17 pm

Great build. The only thing I would change is to start w a high quality sling. But you did mention that.

  41. Today I learned aero precision is considered budget. I’m a poor

  42. Rather than changing the stock and grip, which still work fine, i would have invested in a quality sling. Comfort isnt as important as reliability. Also would have went with an moe hand guard, magpul mlok broomstick, and Midwest industries A2 tactical light mount. That puts the light in a spot that can be activated with the tailcap, instead of using their tape switch, which are a known failure point.

  43. @navajorezathlete1202 January 29, 2025 at 2:21 pm

Stop dropping your mags on the ground

  44. @JoseyWhales-ii4dk January 29, 2025 at 2:22 pm

You should have just bought a nice sling & lots of ammo thanks for sharing….🇺🇸

  45. There’s no budget friendly ARs if you need to spend money to upgrade or to improve it. The barrel sets the tone and nothing you do can change that.

  46. Its not a carry handle 🙂

  47. @navajorezathlete1202 January 29, 2025 at 2:23 pm

All you need to do is upgrade to some metal mags

  48. I believe I got the newer ODG DT Magpul for $60 from Midway. Only stock I have to compare it to is that same M4 stock, but I love the feel.
Check NobleCo Tactical for MBUS front/rear. Cheapest place I could find online.

  49. 3:37 ok buddy, youve gone too far now. i can understand the stock, sure, but the grip also? you got me fucked up

also, your plate carrier is a bit high, by about 2 inches

  50. Romeo 7s instead? Especially right now for sale @ $99?
